Hello and welcome to Doug Brady Hifi for this video feature. And today we are going to feature Arcams rCube. This little device here is esencially and iPod dock, lets engage it with an iPod, and lets give you a little indiction as to how good it can sound.
Its small, nicely proportioned, it’s got a very very good amplifier inside so it kicks out quite a sound, very very clear, very quick and very very open. But this is the sort of think that will fit on a shelf in a bookshelf, on a table, it has portablilty it has a rechargeable battery. But it really is as simple as taking your iPod or your iPod touch, dropping it into the dock here, it’s that simple.
Now there are a couple of features with this device as well, mainly an addon called an rWand which allows you to effectivly use this remotely. So you place the rWand into the iPod, it will link up with the rCube and effectivly have a remote control, so you can control things from your chair.
The rWave on the other hand give you the same kind of approach using your computer, so it send the music wirelessly via your computer.
All in all it’s a what we consider to be a very very strong package at it’s price point. If you are looking for a dock it is absolutly worth consideration.

Doug Brady Hi-Fi will be donating £10 to the Orchid cancer charity for each pair of speakers given or traded in and we will even collect your old speakers from you if you can’t get them to us.

We want to gather together the largest collection of floor standing speakers and stand mount speakers so that we can create a long line of ‘Loudspeaker Dominoes’.

We need your help in setting the Guinness World Record for loudspeaker dominoes and at the same time you can also save some money when buying a new pair of loudspeakers.

To help create this long line of speakers you can now save 10% on a new pair of floor standing speakers or stand mount speakers from Doug Brady Hi-Fi when you donate or trade in an old pair of loudspeakers.

We really do need your help in pulling together as many different pairs of loudspeakers.

You can donate or trade in any type or condition of floor standing speaker or stand mount speaker. It doesn’t even matter if they don’t work, they are damaged or just very old.

Our aim is to create the Guinness World Record for Loudspeaker Dominoes and raise as much money as we can for the Orchid cancer charity and we need your help in order to do so.

The very first pair of speakers have already been donated by a very kind doctor ‘Dr Johnson’, a classic pair of Royd Audio Apex floor standing speakers which are somewhere between 17 and 20 years old.

Stuart McCallum is probably one of the best alternative guitarist’s and Manchester has another music star on its hands.

From Jazz beginnings to DJ Culture, Cinematic Orchestra guitarist Stuarts McCallum’s music is ‘alternative jazz’.
Stuart’s music is a hybrid of composition, production and performance, it combines elegant orchestral movements, bass lines and drum beats with electronica samples, it truly is hypnotic.

Doug Brady Hi-Fi are proud to be working with Stuart and will be playing Stuarts third solo album ‘Distilled’ in the Doug Brady Hi-Fi demonstration rooms.

Several outstanding systems will be on demonstration including Naims SuperUniti, PMC Twenty 24 floorstanding loudspeakers, Dynaudio Xeo 3’s stand speakers and Monitor Audios new surround sound speakers Monitor Audio Shadows.

Stuart McCallum has wealth of experience and combines his time as the Cinematic Orchestra guitarist as well as managing a highly successful solo career. His music has developed in to a truly spine tingling vide.

Stuart as performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Tate St Ives, Glasgow International Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, The Big Chill, Montreal Jazz Festival and Coachella festival in Palm Springs, worked with Disney on the nature documentary soundtrack ‘The Crimson Wing’, involved with the remix of RadioHead’s ‘Exit Music for a Film’ for RadioHead’s remix compilation album ‘Exit Music:Songs for RadioHead’s’.

He has performed with the Heritage Orchestra, The London Metropolitan Orchestra, Royal College of Music, Bridgewater Hall…and this is just a few of them.

Doug Brady Hi-Fi and Stuart McCallum will be working on several other projects so we will keep you update to date with developments.

Hello and welcome to Doug Brady HiFi, we wanted to give you and introduction to a pair of loudspeakers that just hit the market and these have made quite an impression on us. These are the Neat IOTA‘s extremely small, but extremely capable loudspeaker.

We have used the Neat IOTA’s with very modest systems and we have also had them with very expensive systems. And without a doubt they have made quite an impression, and it’s not every day we agree with WhatHiFi and the 5 star review but in this case they do deserve it.

Just to give you a little bit about the Neat IOTA, very small, in fact I’m going to measure it now. You are looking at 200mm or 20cm wide by 13cm high.
Might give you a suppise at first because they are placed on their side and this is how they are suppost to be mounted. We have a small base mid range unit and a plain r ribbon tweeter.

If you wanted a high performance loudspeaker that could effectively, almost disappear in a room, then the Neat IOTA could certainly be a consideration. Their sonic characteristics and qualities very detailed and very expressive through the midrange and also a wonderful soundstage. But hey don’t take our word for it, please you would be welcome to come listen to this or you would be welcome to ring us and speak to us.

Good afternoon and welcome to Doug Brady HiFi. This afternoon on this short video we are going to take a quick look at Simple Audio Roomplayer I and Roomplayer II.

Lets deal with the Roomplayer I, this device, very small very cute contains a receiver and a digital amplifier and this system is designed for people who want to take music from their computer stream it across the house and enjoy high definition audio.

Now the roomplayer II, this is a receiver only and has been designed to be added to a traditional hifi system that may contain a loudspeaker, amplifier etc.
Some of the advantages of this system, number one; it uses powerline communication technology which means you can stream effortlessly around the home using a home plug module and the homeplug approach, but more importantly it’s giving you and insight as to how good streamed music can sound in a traditional home audio setting.

Roomplayer II retails for £499.00, and roomplayer I which is effectivlty a receiver with the built in digital amplifier will retail for about £599.00.

The applications can be downloaded from the simple audio webiste and those will in effect manage and organise your music. The applications can be used on ipad, ipod touch and they can effictivly become your remote control / server.

But, simple audio, we’ve been very impressed with it as a standalone digital streaming device it’s certainly worth a consideration. It’s expected that the tablet market will grow by a massive 63% in 2012, with smartphone sales due to rise 22% and the mobile PC sector growing 11%. Linking and interfacing music and films is bound to be a key part.

It’s been reported by the CEA that in 2002 most people wanted a DVD player, in 2005 it was an MP3 player, 2008 a laptop, and now in 2011 it’s a tablet that’s top of most people’s wish list.

What is clear is that the trend is around smart technology, streaming, cloud computing, touch / voice control, apps and the introduction of these products from more high-end specialist brands.

CEA boss Gary Shapiro says that 20,000 new products will be unveiled at CES 2012.

There are some very exciting products being launched and here are some of our favourites so far!

The Arcam rPac portable DAC is a simple, portable, affordable and high quality DAC which will enhance any music stored on a laptop or digital media player.

The Arcam rPac sits within the Arcam rDAC range building on the success of the rDAC & rCube.

Expected to retail for around £150 the Arcam rPac will be available in mid March. The rPac is a USB-powered digital-to-analogue converter and headphone amplifier, and is designed to be used with PC or Mac computers.

It requires no drivers when used under Windows 7, Windows XP or Mac OSX, and of course being USB powered needs no external power supply, making it a fully portable USB audio solution.

It’s reported that Arcam will use the DAC which is normally found in their very high end Hi-Fi kit, take the files stored on a PC or MAC and convert them in to fantastic sounding music.

Headphone and line level outputs are available and the product is comes in a funky looking black aluminium case.

Monitor Audio Shadow series slim line on-wall surround sound speakers
Expected to be truly the ultimate in style driven and unquestionable performance versus any competitor the ultra-thin shadow range of home cinema speakers is guaranteed to be a much sought after home cinema speaker package.
Monitor Audio Shadow range has a number of brand new design technologies.
Firstly the 4in mid bass driver users a high power Neo magnet system.

Then there is a floating driver and a special ‘concertina’ driver suspension arrangement, plus a proprietary tweeter wrapped in a one-piece aluminium extruded cabinets.

There is also hidden cable entry and connection points which is all presented in a stunning  matt black finish.
There are three models in the range plus a centre channel.

The Monitor Audio Shadow 25 (£500 per pair) is the smallest and is designed for use as a satellite or rear channel speaker. It has a 4in Flat RDR mid bass driver and a 25cm dome tweeter.
Designed to be wall-mounted, it comes with a metal desktop stand, has 84dB sensitivity rating and a max power handling of 60 watts.

Then there is the Monitor Audio Shadow 50 (£800 per pair) which uses dual 4in RDT drivers, a 25mm C-CAM tweeter and two flat ABR drivers. It’s designed to work with TV screens up to 50in in size.

The largest of the Monitor Audio Shadow range is the Shadow 60 which uses a similar driver configuration in a slightly larger cabinet and is therefore aimed at larger screen sizes.
The Monitor Audio Shadow centre speaker (£450) uses the same selection of drivers as the 50 and 60.
The Shadow 50, 60 and centre all have an 87dB sensitivity rating and a max power handling of 120w.

These are guaranteed to be on demonstration in our home cinema room!

Dynaudio Xeo 3 and Xeo 5 high-end wireless multiroom loudspeakers.

Reported as being the world’s first high end wireless the Dynaudio Xeo 3 is a compact bookshelf speaker and the Dynaudio Xeo 5 is a floorstanding speaker which connect wirelessly to Dynaudio’s Xeo wireless transmitter, which is wired to your music source.
The Xeo transmitter has digital optical, USB, stereo analogue and 3.5mm minijack inputs, allowing for connection to a range of three sources, with selection between optical, USB and analogue.

The Dynaudio Xeo transmitter can wirelessly support up to three pairs of speakers, giving you the potential for a three-room, multiroom system and playing music from three separate sources.

Each pair of speakers comes with its own remote, allowing you to a switch between inputs on each set of speakers and adjusts the volume.

When connected via USB the Dynaudio Xeo transmitter requires no mains power, drawing what it needs from your laptop/PC, otherwise mains power is required.

The transmitter supports files up to 24bit/48kHz and sends audio at full CD resolution up to 16bit/48kHz. It connects to the speakers via a 2.4GHz A-to-B connection and promises a range of up to 50m.

The speakers themselves use Dynaudio’s 27mm soft dome tweeter designs and 14.5cm mid/bass drivers with the company’s proprietary MSP (magnesium silicate polymer) cones.

Expected availability from Dynaudio is mid to late March, the Dynaudio Xeo 3 is set to cost around £1,100 a pair, Dynaudio Xeo 5 £2,250 and the Dynaudio Xeo Transmitter £215.

More information will be announced however the Rega RS10 loudspeakers just with their powerful looks and Rega history of producing outstanding speakers are expected to be used as a bench mark for all true audiophile high end loudspeakers.
